Recommended Reading Material for 2012
I did a very "rough & ready" (i.e. not very scientific) test last weekend to see which of 3 new sites I'm testing for redirects is the most popular and I thought I'd share the results, such as they are.
remember this wasn't a highly accurate test as I simply listed all 3 links in the email and asked people to click on which ever one they liked the most, so I'm going to have to do a 'proper' split mailing test to check the results and see how accurate they are.
the URL I liked the most (alink.co) ended up with the worst results, being outperformed by sitelink.co by 11%
but the winner (examplesite.co) had a whopping 18% more clicks than alink.co, so I'm going to use that one for the time being, until I get the chance to do some more testing.

Seriously, this book opened my eyes to a better, simpler way of doing business.

#3. We all keep hearing stuff about the current state of the world's financial markets, what went wrong and how much money it's going to cost us all, but I wanted to get a better understanding of exactly how it all happened and I've read a few different books on the subject.

#4. This one's not to do with business, I'm a bit of a fantasy and sci-fi buff, so I do try to catch up on the best books in the genre when I have time for some purely 'relaxation' reading and there was one 'Stand Out' fantasy book last year.
If you're into fantasy literature at all, I highly recommend checking out the debut novel from Mark Lawrence.

Kindle Publishing
aka “My ex-wife is going to kill me…”
the short version – it’s all about “kindle”…
I grew up and lived in (until about 8 years ago) a small ‘town’ on the border of Wales and England called Hay-on-Wye.
it’s only got a population of around 2,000 people (and 9 pubs) but it’s fairly well known in the UK simply because it has so many 2nd hand book shops, in fact it has more bookshops per person (not inc. sheep) than any other town in the world (apparently).
it’s also the host of a big literature fesitival every year that attracts over 100,000 people for the 7-10 days it’s on, yup, that does make the town VERY busy, but it’s pretty geared up for tourists anyway because of all the bookshops.
so why’s my ex-wife going to kill me..?
simple, she works in one of the bookshops, and like most other people in Hay-on-wye who do, she’s seen what electronic books and readers (i.e. the Kindle) are doing to the traditional bookshop business, basically they’re killing it off, slowly but surely.
and guess what I’ve just bought myself…
yup, a Kindle!
I’ve been playing around with Kindle on my ipad and iphone for a little while, I like having so many books so easily available wherever I am, but I went the extra step and when she finds out she’s not gonna be happy with me to say the least, as I’ve effectively ‘gone to the dark side’!
so why is any of this of interest to you..?

This Kindle stuff is BIG!!!!
VERY VERY BIG!
and the important bit is that it’s actually pretty easy to publish your own ebooks on Kindle and make a big chunk of extra dosh from the 426 million+ people who read these kind of books…
but, like everything, you need to know how to do it right…

Automated Backlinks Plugin
I guess you’re probably thinking ‘not another automated backlinks tool’…
yup, but then can you ever have too many backlinks to your site..?
the answer, in case you were wondering, is no, you only get in trouble by getting too many backlinks too quickly, which this deals with, or by getting too many backlinks from the same source, which this partly dals with, but you shuold use this as part of your overall backlinks strategy anyway.

Note #2: If you saw my blog post (and demo video – Automated Backlinks Software) for WPSBoxPro then what this new plugin does may seem somewhat similar, and that’s because it is, it essentially does much tthe same thing, but it does it in a different way.
with WPSBoxPro you need to do the harvesting of urls and then set up the project and run it, so it’s really ideal if you’ve got an outsourcer to do the work for you or if you’re running it on a seperate computer so you can let it run once you’ve done the initial setup.
with this new plugin you just set it up on a blog (and it can work for multiple sites from one blog) and it will just get on with it and go out to get the comment backlinks for you over time, effectively making it even MORE hands free.
If you have WPSBoxPro you don’t ‘need’ this as well, although you may prefer it simply because of the way it work, I’ve picked up a copy for myself for this very reason.
I will also get a blog post with a demo video done showing how the plugin works asap, although there is one on the site itself if you scroll down a bit.
I should mention it’s likely to be a couple of days before I get the video done as I’ve got my company Xmas party tonight and then have my kids on the weekend and we’re off to the movies as there’s several good movies on at the moment!

it’s probably the best value tool that does anything like this I’ve seen, not that I can think of any other plugin that works like this in the first place, so it get’s my recommendation, but I guess that should be obvious from the fact that I’ve bought a copy myself!

*Note: Any backlinking strategy should aim to get links from a variety of different ‘sources’ on an ongoing basis.
If you get backlinks from just one type of site, likes blog comments, this will not appear to be ‘natural’ to Google, and can result in a ranking penalty for your site.
You target social bookmarking sites, Video sites, Article Sites/submissions, Videos Sites, Press Releases, etc. as well as from blog comments, for your backlinking campaigns.
You should also always target at least 2-3 targeted keyword phrases as the anchor text for your backlinks.
