Day Out At Bristol Zoo

Wow! An August bank holiday and it wasn’t raining!!!

I guess we were long overdue a bit of sunny weather, it’s not exactly been a great summer this year…

As the weather was good, I thought I’d take a trip out somewhere for the heck of it and ended up at Bristol Zoo.

I have been before, but it was quite a few years ago and I had a vague memory of there being an underwater gallery where you could watch the enguins and seals swim, I was right…

Of course when I got there the penguins were all just stood around looking bored and the seals were sunning themselves on the rocks, showing no signs of wanting to take a dip to get out of the hot sun.

I headed down in to the underwater gallery anyway, just in case, and after being there for less than a minute a couple of penguins decided they’d had enough of the hot sun and went for a dip…

shortly followed by at least a dozen more.

There’s something really cool about seeing penguins swimming, they look so clumsy on land, but once they’re under water it’s a different matter. This one seemed to want to get a closer look at who was watching him, before zooming off to show his underwater talents, I guess he was just making usre I was paying attention…

then there was a couple who were either fighting or kissing, I couldn’t tell…

The seals didn’t join in though, they were still lazing around in the sun when I came back out…

There’s more at Bristol Zoo than I remember from the last time I was there, like a whole bunch of “cute” critters, including lost of monkies, prairie dogs, and of course some Meercats…

Another one of my favorites is the Rhinocerous Iguana’s, these beasties are about 5-6 foot long including their tails! They share an enclosure with some pretty hefty Tortoises too…

The of course there’s the whopping great big Gorilla, weighing in at 34 stone!

the Aquarium has another one of my favorites, a huge great big Red Tailed Cat fish, although the photo doesn’t really show it, this guy must be over 3 foot long!

I wasn’t actually expecting to stay long, but I ended up being there almost five hours in all, guess bristol zoo’s actually better than I remember, although the Lions kept running away and hiding from me all day…
